My nails after removing I’ll Take Manhattan :(

I love a lot of things in this world, but nothing quite like nail polish and New York City. So if the two of those magically come together, I get all happy inside. When I saw the Deborah Lippmann New York Marquee collection, I mean, I basically didn’t know what to do with myself. NY inspired? Chrome-tastic? Gimme, gimme, GIMME! Inspired by (obviously) the world’s most beautiful city, this limited-edition fall collection is an ode to Art Deco, encapsulating the “dazzling sights, sounds and spirit of the city.” Amen.

But you’re probably thinking, “UGH, chromes!” I know, they’re utterly terrible to apply, in most cases. But these gems? They’re smooth as silk, they apply like butter, they’re basically a dream come true. If you’re a fan of chromes, you can stop right now and run out to buy these, because I’m telling you, you’re gonna fall in love. Apply just one coat and they’re opaque, non-streaky, and even the brush strokes, once dried, seem to fade away (any lines you might see in the photos above are from the super terrible top coat I used. NEVER AGAIN. Seriously, there are no brush strokes with these colours. Deborah Lippmann’s on to something magical here). I’d apply two coats always for better wear, and these swatches are all two coats of colour plus one coat of extra goopy top coat. My bad, guys. My swatch of Autumn In New York most closely resembles exactly how these polishes turn out when dry. Just sublime.

Now, I read elsewhere that these can be tricky to apply (not my experience at all) with base coat, so I tested it out. It totally applied perfectly over my Quo base coat, but I can’t speak for any other, though I’m sure it wouldn’t be problematic. They go on so smooth, I really wouldn’t worry. I did all of these swatches, ‘cept one, sans base coat because aint nobody got time for that. I had no issues with smooth application or staining except when it came to the most beautiful shade of them all, I’ll Take Manhattan. I mean, just LOOK at that blue! If you’re not a base coat user (which you should be, BTW) but are an insanely-awesome-teal-blue-chrome fan, then please use base coat with this shade. As I type this, though, my nails no longer have an alien hue, though it did take some elbow grease to remove. #worthitthough

In all honestly, I didn’t know what I would think of this collection when it first came, but now that I’ve got my hands on it, I’m just so obsessed. I feel for these polishes just about the same way I feel about New York: completely and utterly in love. I mean, just look at that electric pink and teal colour (my two faves). Are they not to die for? And Deborah Lippmann has re-instated my love for chromes. Sure, these polishes do cost a pretty penny, but in my opinion the extra bucks really go a long way. You get quality unlike any other, and that’s why DL’s on my list of best polish brands, ever.

So that’s that. What’s your favourite shade from this collection? Will you be getting your hands on any of these stunners? Do tell! x
